Story City Church Brand Building
Home to some of the world's most prolific movie studios, Burbank, CA is arguably the storytelling capital of the world. It is also a multiethnic community with few churchgoers and few churches of any kind. This church start up needed to succeed quickly due the high cost of living and serving in the area. They needed to build a brand that belonged in Burbank so that its highly creative residents could feel like they might belong at this church.

Burbank is full of Art Deco architecture and design, not of the South Beach variety, but the darker Great Gatsby style captured in this brand identity. The identity has received high praise from residents of the city visiting the church. Beyond reflecting the design aesthetic of the city, the icon depicts intersecting story lines intended to communicate warmth, togetherness and the new excitement generated when church and community join forces. This idea is reinforced with tag line "Your story is welcome here."

High cost of real estate prohibits Story City Church from likely every owning a building. Instead they rent a local historic theater. Time and storage constraints require their volunteers to recreate the physical environment every Sunday. I created a robust system of portable, easily erected signage to make the theatre feel like home to staff and attendees.
